About the Position:

The Falls Church Anglican (TFCA) seeks an experienced pastoral leader to serve as its Senior Associate Rector (SAR) of the congregation. The primary role of the Senior Associate Rector will be to design and implement a long-term pastoral care strategy for the church that enlists and deploys the congregation’s pastoral gifts while also providing seasoned pastoral wisdom and leadership in the church (Eph 4.11-13). Accordingly, the SAR also assists the Rector and Pastor for Congregation Care in providing specialized experience in pastoral care in crisis or sensitive ministry situations.

TFCA seeks someone with heart of a shepherd (1 Peter 5:2-3), the disposition of a caring pastor (Acts 20:28), a godly character marked by sensitivity to, and the fruit of, the Holy Spirit (Galatians 5:22-25), a love for the Bible, a solid commitment to biblically orthodox faith (2 Tim. 3:16-17), and the wisdom that comes from years of steady, faithful leadership and godly administration (Titus 1:7-9). Ideally, the Senior Associate Rector will have previously served as a rector or senior pastor and will have skills and experience in leading, teaching, serving, and administering in the church.

Together with the Rector, the Senior Associate Rector is responsible for the leadership, care, and oversight of the church’s clergy (both presbyters and deacons) and the pastoral care and support of the parish. Accordingly, the Senior Associate Rector assists the Rector and Pastor for Congregational Care in providing specialized expertise in pastoral care in crisis or sensitive ministry situations as needed and leads corporate liturgical services. Ideally, the Senior Associate Rector will have served as rector at another like-minded church or Anglican parish and have skills and experience in leading, teaching, serving, and administering a church.

Salary: Commensurate with the experience, skills, and qualifications

Job Duties

Leadership & Administrative Gifts 

Develops, implements, and leads a pastoral care strategy for the future that draws and depends on the pastoral gifts of the church body to act as the principal agents of care in the church (supported by the clergy whenever needed). Together with the Rector, responsible for the leadership, care and oversight of the church’s clergy and respective ministries.

Preaching & Pastoral Care 

Along with semi-regular preaching of thoughtful, Biblical and expository sermons, the Senior Associate Rector will officiate weddings, lead funerals and conduct baptisms, as needed.  This person will have high emotional intelligence and top-flight interpersonal, communication and community-building skills.

Build Community  

Ability to foster and help build a community marked by disciples who make disciples—people marked by belief in the Gospel, increasing wholeness and healing in Jesus Christ, and an evangelistic, outward-focused desire to see people coming to Christ and the world impacted for Christ.

Minimum Qualifications

Promising candidates will have 15-25 years of pastoral experience and most or all of the following qualities or experience:

  • Prior service as a Rector or Senior Associate Rector (or similar role in a like-minded church)
  • Master of Divinity
  • Ordination as an Anglican (or willingness to be ordained Anglican), and a knowledge and appreciation of Anglican history, liturgy, and traditions
  • Proven ability to handle multiple responsibilities and effectively manage staff
  • Strong interpersonal skills and proven ability to handle conflict constructively
  • Excellent work ethic
  • A love for the local church, its people and both contemporary and traditional forms of worship
  • Satisfactory background and credit checks
