SHILOHNYC is a Christian not-for-profit organization dedicated to equipping New York City underserved youth and their families with tools that build hope, confidence, and the skills to attain their goals. Through its programs, ShilohNYC mentors youth in an effort to positively impact their physical, mental and spiritual growth.

About the Position:

Reporting to ShilohNYC’s Board of Directors, this position will provide leadership to the organization. In concert with ShilohNYC’s Vision, Mission, and Values, the Executive Director will effectively lead and manage the organization, city programs, and camping operation in a manner consistent with these priorities. The Executive Director will shape, promote, and implement growth strategies through visionary, spiritual leadership, and will oversee all aspects of the ministry.

Salary: $85,000 – $95,000 annually

Benefits: Fully covered individual medical insurance, 4 weeks vacation, flexible work schedule

Location: New York, NY

Hours: Full-Time*

*The Executive Director’s working week hours will vary based on the time of the year. The Executive Director will often work evenings and weekends to accommodate activities such as seasonal schedules, board meetings and representing the organization at public events. 


Job Duties

Program Planning, Development, and Evaluation

  • Lead the on-going exploration, innovation, and development of new program initiatives to keep the organization, city programs, and camp program fresh and cutting edge, for both the summer and shoulder seasons to leverage the strengths of the organization’s programs to appeal to needs in the local constituency. 

  • Be familiar with the principles of inclusivity and have experience with integrated programming for a wide range of youth from different backgrounds. 

  • Ensure the provision of safe and adequate equipment, facilities, and training to drive a fun, recreational and engaging camp, and city programs. Leverage available resources to extend programming opportunities into the shoulder seasons. 

  • Preparing grants and contracts for initial or continued funding. 

  • Developing and implementing evaluations of program goals and objectives for consideration by the Board. Review existing policies on a regular basis and recommend changes to the Board as appropriate. 

  • Ensure the personnel, camper, donor and volunteer files are securely stored and privacy/confidentiality is maintained. 

  • Provide support to the Board by assembling and providing supporting materials for Board Meetings.

Financial Management

  • Develop and carefully manage an annual operating and capital budget, for approval by the board and then operate within the approved budget. 

  • Recommend for approval, revisions of annual budget and major expenditures, as per ShilohNYC’s policies. 

  • Establish pricing for retreats, summer camp and product merchandise. 

  • Organize effective financial practices and procedures to ensure fiscal responsibility and timely reporting. 

  • Ensure on-going transparency with the Board about the organization’s finances.

Property, Facilities and Operations Management

  • Effectively manage the day-to-day operations to be efficient, progressive, and above reproach in all areas. 

  • Liaison with parents, staff, and key support workers. 

  • Manage the camp in full compliance with Provincial Camping standards and relevant health and safety standards. 

  • Develop and obtain approval for a short and long-term site development plan. 

  • Manage all aspects of the camp operation, ensuring good care of property and facilities and in accordance with principles of good stewardship. 

  • Create, manage, support and adhere to established administrative requirements, policies and procedures. 

  • Consciously mitigate operational risk through identification, assessment and implementation of risk management practices. 

  • Working with the facilities manager, monitor the state of repair of each physical asset of the camp. 

  • Prepare reserve fund study for major maintenance and repair items. 

  • Prepare budgets for new capital building projects. 

  • Work with and support volunteer base for maintenance and building activities. 


Human Resource Management

  • Proactively recruit, hire, lead, develop inspire and motivate all staff (full time, part time, and volunteers) towards achieving the mission of the organization, in a way that serves youth, other staff and guests. 

  • Enact on the human resources policies, procedures and practices. Duties include drafting and developing job descriptions of all staff – paid and volunteer. 

  • Guide members of the staff team through appropriate goal setting, coaching and performance review and feedback, as per the ShilohNYC performance management timelines and in line with the stated priorities and goals for the year. 

  • Provide appropriate training and leadership development for all staff to enhance their contribution to local ministry, and the ministry of ShilohNYC. 

  • Engage in succession planning for all key positions. 

  • Nurture and encourage good communication with staff regarding on-going priorities, expectations, plans, decisions, issues and behavior. 

  • Delegate authority with appropriate accountability. 


Marketing and Fundraising

  • Initiate and engage in a variety of marketing, speaking, fundraising, and networking activities with the purpose to fund and fill the summer camp sessions and the city programs. The goal is to ensure the on-going viability and future growth of the ministry.
  • Promote ministries of the organization to youth, families, and local/supporting churches.
  • Build relationships with key leaders within local churches and school boards. 

  • Develop and execute marketing programs to ensure the full utilization of the camp facilities. 

  • Oversee development of all publications (digital, stationary, brochures, newsletters) in support of camp and city program activities. 

  • Maintain and update the organization’s data base for utilization in direct mail campaigns and fund-raising efforts. 
  • Oversee the development and management of the web and social media sites. 

  • Proactively build relationships with existing and new donors; another means to ensure the on-going financial viability and sustainability of the ministry.

The Executive Director may be required to perform other duties as prescribed by the ShilohNYC Board of Directors. As such, the above statements are intended to describe the general nature of the work required for the Executive Director. Qualifications:

  • Personal relationship with Jesus Christ, a desire to grow as a follower, and evidence of a growing relationship with God 

  • Formal Bible training 

  • Church ministry experience 


  • Possess a university degree in a related field or equivalent 

  • Coachable 

  • Decisive leadership skills 

  • Strong oral and written communication skills 

  • High social intelligence 

  • Excellent organizational and management skills 

  • Well-developed team builder, problem solver and conflict manager 

  • Business acumen, particularly in budget development, fiscal control and basic accounting skills 

  • Competent working knowledge of Microsoft suite; knowledge and experience with an accounting software package would be an asset 

  • Working knowledge of property/facilities management, building construction, operations and building maintenance 

  • Working knowledge of marketing, promotion and fundraising 

  • Demonstration of an innovative and entrepreneurial spirit would be an asset 

  • Valid Driver’s License
