About the Position:

Role: Development Director

Location: Salem, Oregon

Salary: $118,220 annually

The Development Director is a key leadership role responsible for the overall strategy, implementation, and execution of fundraising initiatives, with a primary focus on major gifts and sustainable revenue growth. This position will be critical in advancing the mission of Reid Saunders Association (RSA) by cultivating meaningful relationships with major donors, foundations, and corporate partners. The ideal candidate is a strategic thinker, a hands-on implementer, and possesses a deep commitment to RSA’s evangelism-based mission.

Responsibilities:

  • Implements an annual development plan by designing, implementing, and managing a comprehensive development strategy aligned with organization goals.
  • Oversees and manages the Development Department budget, ensuring cost-effective strategies and a strong return on investment across all fundraising activities.
  • Trains and manages any Development Department staff or external consultants to ensure execution of all fundraising activities. Assigns, plans, and manages the work of reporting employees, including all aspects of supervision.
  • Establishes metrics for success and utilizes data (from the CRM database) to track, analyze, and report on fundraising progress to the Executive Director and the Board.
  • Oversees future capital campaign activities: works with campaign consultants to design the plan and execute the tasks of the campaign.
  • Directly manages a high-capacity portfolio of 50-70 major donors and prospects, leading cultivation and solicitation efforts for the organization.
  • Plans and executes face-to-face meetings, proposals, and solicitations with major donors, aligning donor interests with the strategic needs of the organization.
  • Designs and implements a personalized year-round stewardship and recognition program for all major donors to ensure sustained engagement and donor retention.
  • Oversees foundation and grant work.
  • Oversees the day-to-day operations of the development function, including donor acknowledgement, database management, and compliance with all relevant non-profit regulations.
  • Sets performance goals and conducts regular evaluations for Development Department employees.
  • Plans and executes signature fundraising events designed to maximize revenue and strengthen donor relationships
  • Plans and executes a major donor fundraising weekend designed to share the vision and relationally engage only major donors.
  • Works closely with the President of RSA.

  • Has a strong, demonstrated commitment to RSA’s evangelism mission and values.
  • Strategic acumen: expert ability to translate organizational goals into actionable, measurable fundraising strategies.
  • Expert verbal communication skills.
  • Intermediate management and supervisory skills.
  • Basic skills in Microsoft Office Suite or similar software.
  • Growth mindset: ability to envision and create the process to expand revenue through primarily major donor activity.
  • Relationship focus: highly relational and professional demeanor with the ability to build trust and rapport with high-net-worth individuals and RSA leadership.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Experience of five or more years in non-profit fundraising, with demonstrated success in securing major gifts ($10,000+) from individuals and foundations (or five years of experience in sales leadership at a for-profit business).
  • Proven track record of managing and growing an annual development program, preferably within an organization with revenue of $2 million or more.
  • Supervisory experience of two or more years.
  • Experience conducting major donor weekend events is preferred.
  • Experience using CRM platforms for donor connection is preferred.
  • Bachelor’s degree or CFRE is preferred.
