Our Story:

Life Choices was founded in 1984 and offers support to men and women by providing education, support, healing, and limited medical services for sexual life choices. In 1991, the Education Program was started to educate and encourage students to make healthy lifestyle choices. For the past forty years, we have promoted avoidance of health risk behaviors to adolescents including drug, alcohol, tobacco and pornography use and premarital sexual activity. We believe prevention is key!

Over the years, Life Choices has grown in staff, programs, volunteers, community support, and educational opportunities making it one of the largest and most established pregnancy centers along the Northern Front Range.

About the Position:

The Director of Nursing oversees the provision of patient care and medical services operations and performs patient care, under the licenses and direction of the Medical Director while working alongside the Executive Director, Center Directors, Administrative Nurse, and medical staff.

Reports to: Executive Director and Medical Director.

Hours: Full-time position (40 hours per week) and includes vacation accrual benefits.

Salary Range: $65,000 – $70,000

Benefits: Accrued vacation time, AD&D benefit

Location: Loveland, CO and Longmont, CO

Job Duties

  1. The Director of Nursing is responsible for the immediate supervision of Life Choices’ medical functions under the direction and orders of the Medical Director and Executive Director.
    1. Planning and performing direct and indirect nursing interventions,
    2. Supervising, organizing, planning, assessing, and monitoring the medical services provided by Life Choices Pregnancy Medical Center.
  2. Oversees education, trainings, and assessments of medical staff (includes volunteers), center directors and advocates to ensure best practices related to care and safety of patients.
  3. Works in conjunction with physicians, nurses, and client advocates ensuring that patients are receiving the best medical, nursing, and physiological care possible.
  4. Monitors scheduling of medical staff for all Life Choices Pregnancy Medical Centers.
  5. Monitors the client communication streams and schedules appointments as needed.
  6. Provides monthly and year-to-date reports, including stats to the Executive Director and Medical Director.
  7. Provides nursing services, including ultrasounds to patients as needed when available.
  8. Attends staff meetings and other required meetings.
  9. Initiates APR policy to on call nurses and advocates to initiate services for clients

Supervises: Medical staff and all medical services in the Centers.

Management: Works with the Administrative Nurse to:

  • Develop, maintain, review, and update Life Choices policies and procedures.
  • Maintain a working knowledge of nursing methods, principles, and practices in relation to safety, infection control, clinical systems, supplies, and equipment.
  • Assure compliance with infection control, safety guidelines, HIPAA, and OSHA.
  • Orders all medical supplies.

Nursing Care:

  • Organizes, directs, supervises, and evaluates professional and ancillary personnel.
  • Oversees nursing services in the Centers.
  • Provides nursing care; assesses patient needs and makes nursing judgments that reflect safe nursing practices.
  • Maintains accurate records, care-plans, and follow-through on physician’s orders.
  • Assures accurate implementation of physician’s orders and advises physicians of patient’s progress and changes in condition as needed.
  • Assists physician with exams and treatments as needed.
  • Oversees education for patient and family to develop an understanding of their health condition.
  • Oversees patient follow-up per patient care-plan and standardized procedures.
  • Oversees performance of pregnancy tests, urinalyses, ultrasounds, and other medical services provided.

Staff Development:

  • Recruits qualified medical team volunteers to meet the needs of the Centers.
  • Oversees training and orientation of the clinic medical team volunteers,
  • Participates in establishing and conducting in-service meetings,
  • Conducts medical team conferences and discussions in evaluating the Center services, policies, procedures, and protocols.

Personal Development:

  • Increases knowledge of management, obstetrical and gynecological care, and women’s pregnancy health issues.
  • Self-organized and adept at time management

The Director of Nursing does an annual evaluation with the Medical Director regarding medical matters and an evaluation by the Executive Directorregarding center operational matters.

Required Qualifications

  • Holds a current Registered Nurse’s License in good standing with the State Medical Board (DORA) or any other licenses that may be required by the State of CO. Required is a BSN degree.
  • Expresses full agreement with Life Choices’ Statement of Principle, Mission Statement, and Statement of Faith.
  • Maintains a consistent life-affirming philosophy and would never refer for nor advise a woman to have an abortion.
  • Complies with the policies and procedures of the Center.
  • Is dependable, stable, and capable of following through on commitments.
  • Has a sincere desire to reach out to abortion-vulnerable and abortion-minded women.
  • Respects confidentiality
  • Exhibits skill in interpersonal communication, public speaking, training, and problem solving.
  • Able to provide spiritual leadership, discipleship and support to the volunteers and staff.
  • Able to carry out responsibilities with little or no supervision.
  • Provide proof of current Hepatitis B vaccine records or waiver.
  • Demonstrates ability to perform nurse activities as needed.
  • Has completed or is willing to complete a recognized Nurse Limited Obstetrical Ultrasound course, may be provided by Life Choices, or is a Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer.

Physical Demands:

  1. Ability to sit or stand for long periods.
  2. Light lifting may be required for office supplies or patient materials.
  3. Ability to walk up and down stairs

  • Is or has been a volunteer at Life Choices
  • Has demonstrated leadership qualities consistent with the values and mission of Life Choices.
  • Have previous experience in non-profit management or leadership.
