Faith United Church is an Evangelical Presbyterian Church located in Brandon, South Dakota. They have a thriving community, and in addition to regular Sunday Services, they also provide Children’s, Youth, Men’s, Women’s, and Senior’s ministries.

About the Position:

The Director of CHILDREN’S Ministries is a paid position and has primary responsibility for the spiritual leadership, pastoral care, administrative oversight and organizational direction for the children of Faith United Church. The person in this position must demonstrate a great capacity to love children and their families by building discipleship relationships and administrating quality programs that guide families to take the next faithful step in their relationship with Jesus Christ. The person in this position will work collaboratively with staff, Session and ministry teams to develop and implement the mission for children’s ministry while keeping in line with the overall vision of the church. This individual must be a passionate disciple of Jesus Christ and a team player that is able to equip and train volunteer ministry teams, teach well, equip parents and organize and implement programs and events.

Hours: Part-Time (25-29 hours per week). Sundays plus 2 office days/week.

Salary: $24,000 – $30,000 annually

Location: Brandon, SD

Reports to: Pastor

Supervises: Volunteers

Responsibilities:

Programming:

Church Leadership Team

  • Serve as contributing member of the staff; represent the needs and interests of children and their families
  • Work closely with the Pastor, the Elder for Family Ministries, and the Youth Ministries staff to fulfill the purpose of Faith United Church
  • Attend weekly staff meetings and cooperate with staff to accomplish “all-church” events & ministry goals

Leadership of Children’s Ministry

  • Relationally invest in children and their families; demonstrate a passion to play and connect with children in fun and exciting ways while also leading and influencing them towards the next step in their relationship with Jesus Christ
  • Create and maintain a safe environment for children that promotes authentic community for the whole family
  • Present biblical and culturally relevant teaching that sustains Christian values and points children and families to maintain a God-centered lifestyle
  • Train volunteer teams who will help shepherd children in life and faith
  • Provide administration and oversight of weekly activities and special events, including VBS, curriculum, scheduling, communication, and publicity
  • Help form and implement a strategy for equipping parents to be primary disciplers of their children
  • Connect with and support other ministries and churches in the Brandon Valley area

Birth through 4th Grade

  • Sunday Morning: recruit and train volunteers for when children are excused during the service before the sermon; plan programming; create and facilitate a fun experience of games, songs, and age appropriate teaching. This has a large group teaching format and small group discussion breakouts based on age.
  • VBS: work with leadership team to plan programming, enlist volunteers, organize and implement VBS
  • Plan/organize Kid’s Christmas Program and Palm Sunday Program
  • Nursery: provide oversight for nursery care; recruit, train, and vet volunteers and attendants for the nursery; schedule for Sunday Morning services as well as other special events that would need nursery care
  • Provide family devotion and activities for winter Simple Suppers (4 to 6 times a year)
  • Creatively evaluate programming and strategically engage in new ideas for children’s ministry

Additional Responsibilities

  • Attend games, concerts, performances, and other school and children’s activities (the schools welcome church workers onsite for lunch and support)
  • Connect with Parents, regularly engaging and partnering in discipling their children

Qualifications:

  • A degree and/or equivalent experience in teaching and/or children and youth ministry preferred
  • A passion/calling for family ministry, with primary emphasis on nursery, pre-school and elementary ages children; ability to develop positive relationships with children and their families
  • Ability to plan, organize, teach and equip, with special emphasis on communicating and connecting with children
  • Ability to inspire and motivate team members/volunteers toward the mission and vision of Faith United Church
  • A passionate love for Jesus Christ demonstrated through faith and obedience to God’s Word and the leading of the Holy Spirit; a calling to serve and love the people at Faith United Church, and work towards the church’s vision and mission
  • A commitment to the Essentials and Beliefs of the Evangelical Presbyterian Church
