About the Position:

The responsibility of the Principal is the supervision of the instructional staff and the implementation of the school program to meet the needs of students, teachers, and parents. He/She is employed as a role model for students, staff, and the entire school community. As such, the highest moral and ethical standards are expected at all times, either on or off campus. He/She must have a testimony of a growing personal relationship with Jesus Christ and must be a member in good standing at a local evangelical church whose doctrine and practices are consistent with the doctrinal position and the spiritual practice of the school.

The Middle School Principal leads the students, faculty, and families in Grades 5-8. Serving on the NCCS Leadership Team, the Principal works closely with the Academic Council to advance the mission and vision of NCCS in the Middle School. This position supports all stakeholders in the pursuit of academic excellence and spiritual formation. The Principal’s primary areas of responsibility include hiring and onboarding, managing the budget, serving as the instructional leader of the Middle School, establishing the master schedule, faculty observations and feedback, overseeing a climate of safety and respect, keeping up with current research on educational pedagogy, and fostering a culture of academic excellence and age appropriate spiritual formation.

Salary: $80,000-$100,000 annually

Job Duties

NCCS Leadership Team

  • Lead the middle school admin team, as well as department and grade chair teams
  • Lead regular faculty meetings and participate in weekly Take One meetings
  • Hold each teacher accountable for their job responsibilities 
  • Ensure that all grades are uploaded and communicated in a timely manner
  • Ensure that all teachers & students are in compliance with all policies and procedures (i.e., on time, dress code, teaching bell to bell, supervision, etc.)  
  • Coordinate the middle school calendar of events in coordination with the school’s master calendar and other divisions/departments
  • Handle student disciplinary policies in a manner consistent with the school philosophy
  • Participate in timely communication with parents and teachers (written communication, conferences, informal contacts) to enhance the educational experience for students and families
  • Screen applicants, interview families, and, in conjunction with the Assistant Head of School, make final decisions about acceptance, grade placement, and extra requirements for admission
  • Follow all policies & procedures put in place by the admissions office and conduct prospective family interviews; participate in the admissions committee 
  • Participate with the Assistant Head of School in the interview process selection, orientation, corrective action, and contract renewal decisions of the instructional staff 

Middle School Administrative Duties

  • Maintain & oversee the budget associated with the Middle School department
  • The expenditure process requires a purchase/reimbursement form to be filled out
  • All receipts for expenditures must be turned in to the business office
  • Timely communication of all Middle School matters within 24 to 48 hours   
  • Coordinate and delegate the organization and implementation of events including retreats, class trips, honors/awards ceremonies, chapels, grandparents’ day, veterans day, game nights, dodgeball, and all middle school field trips
  • Provide strategic leadership for the achievement of NCCS objectives and strategic plans

Academic Excellence and Spiritual Formation

  • Provide leadership, guidance, and counsel to the instructional staff for the academic and spiritual program of the school
  • Coordinate the curriculum selection process, inventory of curriculum materials, and process of purchasing curricular materials within budgetary restraints
  • Collaborate and regularly engage with the academic leaders of the school
  • Promote and forward innovations in the Middle School, especially those that foster deeper, student-centered learning
  • Stay informed on current research on innovation, education, and schools that are implementing innovative practices and programs, particularly related to Christian spiritual formation and a biblical worldview
  • Informally and formally evaluate all under his/her supervision using a research backed educational framework (i.e. – Danielson Framework)
  • Assist the school in strengthening and enhancing instructional programs in place at the school
  • Cultivate and celebrate faculty and staff in improving their craft and practicing key focus areas like project-based learning, student centered approaches, real-world learning, and building diverse networks that expand our impact for Christ
  • Provide leadership in the areas of curriculum, instruction, and assessment
  • Engage with staff in data analysis for best instructional practices and results
  • Utilize data to organize and develop strategies for students who are experiencing difficulties
  • Assist in creating and leading professional learning for faculty, collaborating with the academic leaders of the school
  • Help analyze and interpret standardized test scores along with principals, department chairs, and the testing coordinator in order to improve our academic program

Minimum Qualifications

Required Characteristics

  • Master’s degree required (preferably in Ed Leadership or Curriculum & Instruction). Specialist Degree or higher is preferred. 
  • Minimum of five years experience as a principal or administrator
  • Minimum of five years experience as a classroom teacher
  • Strong leadership, thorough understanding of school operations, strong written and oral communication skills, organizational and interpersonal skills, experience with Google platforms, and working knowledge of inquiry-based and student-centered instructional strategies.
  • A personal relationship with God through faith in Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord
  • Evidence of spiritual maturity with a commitment to glorifying and honoring God in all areas of life
